Living Water
The ocean is one of my favorite places. I love watching the waves crash, watching the pelicans fearlessly dive for fish, and feel the breeze on my face. I love watching the change in the ocean at times calm waves, other times waves that ferociously crash. I love the water.
Water.
Water is life. We drink it, we play in it, creatures live in it. It’s amazing how one element has so many uses. There is saltwater, freshwater, each with its own purpose. Amazing.
When I think of water, I think of blue, flowing, everlasting, plentiful. I think of movement, fun, excitement, yet interesting enough also peace, stillness, quiet. Refreshing also comes to mind, in ways by replenishing my body, cooling me on a hot day, warming me on a cold day, and comforting me on a hard day.
Like its many uses on earth, there are many places in the bible where water is discussed. So many ways we could think about how water, life, and God all transform life.
One area Jesus speaks of water He says:
“Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.””
Water given by Jesus, to fill you and never be thirsty again. This is available to you and me if we believe in Him, if we choose to follow him. We will not be thirsty. He is all things to all people. He wants you to come, come when the waves are crashing all around you and a storm is picking up, come when the waters are calm and the sun is shining bright. He, like water, is plentiful, everlasting, constant.
“On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”[a] By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.”
You and I can have access to the Holy Spirit that lives in us. We can listen to the Spirit that lives in us. We can LIVE by the spirit. We can share the living water, we can allow others not to be thirsty. We can fill the longing that ourselves and others have by sharing WHO fills our thirst. We can raise each other up and comfort each other and guide each other with the words of truth.
When you think of water, what comes to mind? In your words, are you able to find Jesus? Do the words that come from your thoughts of water, speak words of what you need at this moment?
How do your thoughts change whether you are in a storm or a sunny day?
Where are you on your journey? Are you walking along the edges of something new? Do you need to Dive deeper? Be still? Be the movement? Share your story? OR Do you feel like you have traveled too far out to sea?
No matter where you are, your Father is waiting for you, and HE wants to fill your thirst. Go to Him.
